They succeed to develop a paint that can generate hydrogen fuel from moist air and sunlight.The technology is now its testing and not available to use it commercially but researchers are working hard to make this technology available in next five years.

According to RMIT lead researcher, Dr. Torben Daeneke ” the end product will be cheap and easy to use and also claims the paint would be effective in a variety of climates, from damp environment to hot and dry ones near large bodies of water”

What Is Solar Paint & How It Works

RMIT researchers have developed this paint by using combine mixture of titanium oxide and synthetic molybdenum-sulphine. The material absorbs solar energy as well as moisture from the surrounding air. It can then split the water into hydrogen and oxygen, collecting the hydrogen for use in fuel cells or to power a vehicle.
The Titanium oxide used in the mixture is the white pigment that is already commonly used in all kind of wall paints, meaning that the simple addition of the new material can convert a brick wall into energy harvesting and fuel production clean energy solution.

According to researchers “The new development has a big range of advantages,” They said. “There’s no need for clean or filtered water to feed the system. Any place that has water vapor in the air, even remote areas far from water, can produce fuel.”

This solar paint can also be used in very dry but hot climates near oceans. As large amount of hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels which are responsible for greenhouse gas emissions.The hydrogen produced from this solar wall paint will be used as an energy carrier and it will also reduce the reliance on lithium ion batteries
