Here is another achievement for efforts toward clean technology and energy efficiency from last several years. Two Swiss engineers and business built world’s first solar power aircraft, not only they built but also took a world tour from this solar powered aircraft. The battery powered aircraft is a marvel in the energy efficiency industry and both inventors have decided to spread awareness about the technological.This marvel is known as “IMPULSE“. After completing the first experiment with Impulse 1, which was designed to remain airborne up to 36 hours they have built another model “IMPULSE 2″ which completed the world tour with zero fuel.
According to both founder André Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard, ” the project was completely like dream come true and we have made it possible with dedication and strong team work efforts.” The technology will help us to make an environment-friendly solution with the help of technology which creates more jobs which grow the economy and build a clean and green world.
The project was first initiated by Bertrand Piccard in 2003 and in 2009 they started the aircraft construction with the team of 50 engineers and  technical specialists from six countries, assisted by about 100 outside advisers and 80 technological partners{wikipedia}

How IMPULSE aircraft Works And How They Completed First World Tour

This plane is complete looks different than traditional aircraft, but working principles are the same. It uses 100% of energy from renewable energy.The wingspan of the aircraft is wider than being 747 and embedded with 17,000 small solar cells on its wings. As compare to Airbus and other aircraft the weight of impulse 2 is only 2.3 tonnes, it is just little more than an average SUV. The body is completely made with light weight carbon fiber. Hundreds of professions are working hard to build a compact and light weight design and they built a non-pressurized cockpit 3.8 cubic meters in size.
With total one crew sitting capacity, the length of the aircraft is 22.4 m and height is 6.37m. It gets thrust from four highly efficient electric motors and 41 Kwh capacity of four lithium ion batteries are available to provide power during the night.

The world tour was started from Abu Dhabi on 9 March 2015. There were total 12 stops had been decided to stop and repair the faults and fly again towards another stop. the crew always waited for good weather condition for continues journey without any delay. Solar Impulse 2 has crossed the speed of between 50 to 100 kilometer per hour ground speed, the speed became less in the night due to battery power dependency. By the end of may, the plane has landed in Japan and on June 29 they started the journey towards next stop “Hawai”. The pilot always uses yoga and another exercise to promote blood flow and also replace aircraft battery at several stops. On 26th July the completed the around the world tour in total 16 months of the journey.

Total stops during this world tour are :
Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Ahmedabad, Varanasi, Mandalay, Chongqing, Nanjing, Nagoya, Kalaeloa, Mountain View CA, Phoenix, Tulsa OK, Dayton, Lehigh Vally, Seville, Cairo
